You will be using antibiotic eye drops, anti inflammatory eye drops, and artificial tears to promote healing. It is common for your eyes to be dry for several weeks; you may use the artificial tears frequently.
Protect your eyes:
It is important not to rub your eyes following your LASIK procedure, to avoid moving or wrinkling your flap. It will adhere on its own over the course of 1 to 2 weeks. We will provide “goggles” to sleep in for the first 5 nights.
Bathing:
When showering do not allow water to get into your eyes for 1 week. You may wash your face, but wipe your eyes very gently.
|
Makeup:
Do not wear eye make up for at least 5 days following your LASIK procedure, to reduce the possibility of getting make up under the flap before it heals.
Activities:
You will want to avoid jogging, weight lifting, and strenuous activities for the first week. In the first few weeks following your LASIK procedure wear protective eyewear when appropriate (racquet sports, contact sports, grass mowing).
Your doctor will be monitoring your vision through regularly scheduled post operative visits at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year intervals.
Most Important: Enjoy your new level of visual freedom!!!!!! |
Short-Term Expectations:
Your vision may fluctuate for several days. It may change from better or worse from day to day, but you should not notice any large decrease in vision. Many patients see well enough to return to work the very next day. You may drive and resume your normal activities as your vision allows.
Long-Term Expectations:
Glare or Halos: You may have better vision during the day than you do at night. You may notice glare from lights or halos around lights for several weeks following your LASIK procedure. This effect tends to gradually diminish with time, however, some people will notice halos for a longer period, perhaps permanently. Haze: You may have some corneal haziness following LASIK. This haziness does not usually significantly interfere with vision, but it may make glare from bright lights more pronounced, especially at night. This haziness tends to diminish with time, although it may persist longer and perhaps never completely go away.
Reading Glasses: If you are over 40 years of age, you will probably need reading glasses for near vision after LASIK, even if you did not need them before. This is due to the natural aging process of the eye, called presbyopia. A monovision correction may reduce your need for reading glasses.
